Physical security risk assessment
Physical security risk assessment for operators in Africa.
An executive-grade service focused on the physical threats to people, sites, product and logistics — and built to withstand scrutiny from international underwriters, insurers and group risk committees.
Decisions that protect people, operations and shareholder value must rest on evidence — not opinion. Armiger delivers that evidence.
Core service
Physical security risk assessment
Structured assessment across assets, threats, attractiveness, vulnerabilities and consequences — producing an executive-ready register with quantified baseline and residual risk for each physical threat path.
Design
Capability design
POSTEDFIT-based design of the physical security capability required to hold residual risk inside executive tolerance — not just a shopping list of guards and cameras.
Assurance
Implementation oversight
Independent assurance, tabletop exercises and process audits to confirm the designed controls are working — and re-scored after deployment.
Methodology
A defensible, costed set of actions — and a capability that holds.
1
Asset characterisation
Identify the people, processes, information and infrastructure that matter — and what they are worth to the business if lost, damaged or compromised.
2
Threat assessment
Who could act against the assets, with what capability and intent — drawn from intelligence, incident history and local context.
3
Attractiveness
For each threat–asset pair, how attractive is the target — the filter that separates theoretical risks from credible ones.
4
Vulnerability assessment
Walk the site and the processes. Where do existing people, procedures and technology fail to stop a credible threat path?
5
Risk assessment
Likelihood × consequence scoring produces the baseline risk — mapped onto the client’s risk tolerance matrix.
6
Risk mitigation plan
Proposed controls are costed, sequenced and re-scored to show the residual risk the executive will be asked to accept.
Ranking the mitigations that matter. The value of a mitigation is the total risk reduction it drives across the register — not its cost, and not how it feels. On a recent South African colliery assessment this cut a list of 40+ proposed controls to a prioritised 12, reducing aggregate baseline risk by more than half at a fraction of the unsorted spend.
Why Armiger
- Operator-led. Our assessors have conducted assessments on operating mines, logistics corridors, industrial facilities and high-value residential estates — not a desk-based consultancy.
- Africa-ready. Deep familiarity with the threat picture, regulatory environment and operating reality across Southern Africa, with Quagga group sister companies available for regional delivery.
- Transparent methodology. Every score, ranked mitigation and residual risk number is traceable — so executives can interrogate the logic, not just the conclusion.
- Underwriter-ready. Output structured for international underwriters and group risk committees: clear asset value, quantified threat, prioritised controls and measured residual exposure.
Engagement approach
01
Scope & mobilise
Agree assets in scope, threat picture assumptions and reporting format with the sponsor. Typically 1–2 weeks.
02
On-site & analyse
Field work, stakeholder interviews, process walk-throughs, control testing. Baseline and residual risks modelled.
03
Brief & deliver
Executive-grade report, prioritised mitigation plan, POSTEDFIT capability design and an exco-level briefing.
Sector experience: coal mining and processing · industrial and logistics corridors · high-value residential and commercial estates · waybill and product-flow controls · tabletop exercises of security policy under stress. Several full-scope assessments completed in the Southern African mining sector in the last 24 months.
POSTEDFIT
Designing the capability behind the plan.
Armiger uses the POSTEDFIT lines of development, so every dimension of the capability is deliberately designed, resourced and tested before it has to work.
P
Personnel
The right numbers, attributes and screening standards for the threat.
O
Organisation
Control and accountability — who decides, who acts, who reports.
S
Sustainment
Logistics, maintenance, spares and support that keep the capability running after day one.
T
Training
Baseline competence plus scenario-driven exercises to keep it alive.
E
Equipment
Fit-for-task vehicles, PPE and detection kit — matched to the threat.
D
Doctrine
Written procedures, escalation rules and SOPs that survive the shift change.
F
Facilities
Perimeters, guard posts, control rooms and forward operating points.
I
Information
Intelligence flows, incident reporting and the data that drives decisions.
T
Technology
CCTV, access control, tracking and analytics — selected to extend the team, not replace it.
